On Whose Authority?
Jesus said: "Heaven and earth shall pass away but My words will by no means pass away." Matthew 24:35.

John the Apostle said: "For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." Revelation 22:18,19

Word Spirit Power
A deadly divide threatens our faith. Too often we draw line in the sand. We emphasize knowing the Bible without welcoming the work of the Holy Spirit. Or we focus on the Spirit—seeking signs, wonders and manifestations—while neglecting sound Biblical teaching.
This divide prevents our becoming the effective, empowered people He wants us to be. When we prize the Word over the Spirit or the Spirit over the Word, we miss an element central to our faith. Just as reliably as with a mathematical equation, we need both the Word and the Spirit to live as God intends and to access the power available to us to draw a lost world to His Son.

Only when the Word is honored and the Holy Spirit welcomed will the Lord manifest His power, bringing salvation, understanding, miracles, healings and much more. One day while exploring an ocean reef at low tide, I found a young moray eel that had been stranded in a small coral rock pool and left to die. The out-going tide had trapped him and he was already lifeless when I arrived. My heart hurt for him for he was just inches from the water he desperately needed. But while I was wishing that I had arrived soon enough to help, another fact came to mind. I could not have rescued him anyway. Had I attempted to pick him up, he would have misunderstood my motive. Instinctively, he would have fought me, thinking I was an enemy who would bring harm. In that tragic confusion he would have chosen death rather than life–not because death was necessary, but because he would not have recognized the danger he was in or that rescue was genuinely possible.

I came away from the reef that day with a deep impression in my heart. It was as if the Lord were saying, "What you have seen in the eel is the circumstance of my Christian children too. Many do not realize that they are in pools that will soon be dry. Since they refuse to look beyond the reef of their own churches, they cannot see how much their water level has fallen. Warn them what the receding tide really means. Tell them they are in the final days. Even when they distrust your motive and mistake you for an enemy, offer your help. Love them. Keep on loving them. Let your love encourage them to believe that my Spirit, like an ocean of living water is ready to come as a tidal wave upon them. They need not perish in the dried up pools of their own reef. I am willing to give my Spirit to those who ask me and it will become a river of living water flowing out of them."

THE AUTHOR Charles Carrin, a naturalist and a historian, has devoted much of his life to exploring the history and outdoors of the state his ancestors helped establish. From a background rich in personal history and tradition, Charles writes about early Florida with passion and insight. Born in Homestead, Florida, on the edge of the Everglades in 1930, he is a fifth generation Floridian, descended from two pioneer-Florida preachers who rode the circuit to minister to their parishioners during the war years.
His great-great-grandmother, born in 1798, is buried on the banks of the Suwanee River. With Native American ancestry in each family tree, Charles portrays the Seminole War with sensitivity towards red, black, and white men alike. In 1949, his plans to study botany in Central America were overridden by a clear directive from the Lord, calling Charles into Christian ministry. Now in his sixty-first year of ministry and retired from pastoring a church, his schedule remains busy with speaking engagements, writing, and mentoring of younger pastors. Charles resides in Boynton Beach, Florida. Dorothy Easley has been blessed by the ministry of Charles Carrin since she was a child, and Charles baptized her father. She is descended from pioneers who established a trading post in Florida in the 1800's. Dorothy's fore-parents were the first white settlers to permit Indians to make purchases on credit and always maintained good relations with local tribes. Dorothy teaches math at Broward College. She and her husband Ralph make their home in South Florida.
